The Last Exorcism is out in theatres and #1 at the box office. While I’m looking forward to seeing it, I can’t help but think that it’s simply an attempt to copy one of my favourite movies, The Exorcist. So for this week’s edition of the Festival of Frugality, here are some trivia bits about The Exorcist that you may not have known!

William Peter Blatty based his novel on a supposedly genuine exorcism from 1949, which was partially performed in both Cottage City, Maryland, and Bel-Nor, Missouri. Several area newspapers reported on a speech a minister gave to an amateur parapsychology society, in which he claimed to have exorcised a demon from a 13-year-old boy named Robbie, and that the ordeal lasted a little more than six weeks.

Best actor in any of the Exorcist movies? Patrick Ewing!!
That first one is scary even today. I remember always seeing it on TV then I saw the director’s cut in the theater – whoa!
Thanks for hosting.
Thanks for including me in such an eerie carnival… I watched the original film a few years ago and was much more upset than I’d been when I saw it at age 18. Probably because I’m the mother of a daughter now.
Thanks so much for including my post in this carnival. Also, very cool theme. I read that the new Exorcism movie was really good.
Thanks for including my post in the carnival!
Maybe I’m a cynic but I cannot face going to see new incarnations of old movies, perticulary horror. In my opinion horror has gone downhill in the last decade.
I hope I’m wrong and this is an amazing movie that really is entertaining!
interesting festival theme. Thank you for including my post.
Interesting facts, Tom. Crazy about the prize winnings being the catalyst. Thanks for including me.

While I love horror films, I prefer foreign horror films such as the original versions of the Ring, the Eye, the Grudge and the like! Thanks for a great edition of the carnival!

Sending you a free virtual beer! Haha…
